Are all swaddle blankets the same?
There are several fabrics used for swaddle blankets, the most popular of which is the cotton muslin. Other fabrics used are either bamboo or a cotton jersey blended with rayon or polyester to give the fabric some stretch. As moms conscientiously and meticulously choose every item that baby uses, it remains even more crucial to carefully choose what touches baby's skin on a daily basis.
Why did we choose organic cotton muslin?
Our team thoroughly read through reputable sources to be able to recommend which textile to use for our swaddle blanket based on sustainability, processing standards, comfort and ease of use, and safety for babies.
With our tropical weather, muslin was an easy choice. With its fine and loose weaving which dates all the way back to ancient India, it is produced with a single weft thread alternating with a single warp thread, making it breathable, durable and comfortable to use.
Using organic cotton, we wanted to make sure that the fabric was not processed with harmful chemicals. Cheap synthetic fabrics can cause irritation and overheating on baby's skin. Since our GOTS-certified muslin swaddle is not highly flammable much like polyester blends, our fabric is not treated with chemical fire retardants, making it even safer for baby.
What does it mean to be GOTS certified ?
"GOTS is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain." (https://global-standard.org/the-standard)
Using GOTS certified textile ensures us that the fabric processing aligns with global ecological and social standards.
